Two-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.

I had huge expectations for this film, I missed it on circuit and couldn’t wait to get the DVD home. I wasn’t entirely impressed with the direction but the effects where super crispy, it was well acted and cast and the plot was as original as a vampire film could be these days. What with the string of teenage emo, MTV fluff, “I’m hideous because I sparkle in the sunlight” vampire films that have been raping our screens of late “Daybreakers” delivers the edge that I’ve come to love about this genre. Very cool! I’ll watch it again in six months!
